My Evolution as a
Brand Photographer
I’m a visual storyteller and educator with a passion for Personal Branding Photography. My journey began with a BA (Hons) in Visual Communications from TU Dublin in 2001, leading me to teach photography and graphic design at Ballyfermot College of Further Education for many years.

This has informed the basis for my own visual practice: working with people, helping them to effectively and creatively communicate their vision, is what I’m good at!

I spend my days collaborating with CEOs and global brands, helping them to increase their visibility and reach their business goals.

The evolution of Portrait Boss is on-going, and I know that all entrepreneurs understand me when I say that brands are a breathing living thing that require a visionary expertise and a stomach for risk! My goal as a personal branding photographer is to help other brands to increase their impact and income and transform their business into an empire!

Education is at the heart of everything I do, I’ve spent 20 years in the classroom teaching graphic design, brand strategy and photography to ambitious students. I am constantly learning and have developed a small obsession with online courses! Recent purchases include The Fashion Series by Lara Jade, The Personal Branding System by Nikki Closser and The Pose Series by Sue Bryce which I confess to watching before every shoot! Planning and mapping out my shoots is an integral part of my workflow, knowing every pose and every lighting set to enhance the quality of the work and my client experience is paramount.

I’ve always loved portraiture and have idolised the work of documentary photographers such as Mary Ellen Mark, Nan Goldin and Diane Arbus. It’s the work of these women that inspired my passion for documentary and street photography. I spent many years attending rallies, protests or just wandering around the under belly of European cities with my 35mm camera. Hours spent in the darkroom processing and developing film with art students was crucial for cultivating my love for the medium. The shift towards digital was a reluctant one, change is scary, but I was excited about the opportunity to explore and expand my creative repertoire.

With a deep love for fashion, I bring an inherent sense of style to every shoot. This passion enhances the experience for brand clients, ensuring their visual story is not just captured but elevated. I know how important creating the right perception is to each and every client. Ensuring that each of my clients are wearing tailoring that compliments their form, in a colour palette that highlights their hair and skin complexion has become an essential part of my service.
